For Higher Education

Training, Observation & Placement

WISE offers training, observation and practicum placement for graduate students in speech/language pathology. Students from the University of Alabama, Auburn University, Samford University, and the University of South Carolina have gained experience in our programs. Graduate students work alongside our clinicians as part of the requirements for earning a Master’s Degree. Our therapists also speak as guest lecturers during many University courses.

What our graduate clinicians are saying

It has been a blessing to be able to learn from the WISE staff and work with these precious kiddos. I hope to one day graduate and make a difference in lives that way that the WISE clinicians do.

Maegan

I am so appreciative of all WISE has done for me. I consider myself incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to work alongside the WISE therapists and I have learned so much. I look forward to the future and visiting WISE often.

I could not have hand picked a better graduate school placement. The therapists always pushed me to do more. While I didn’t always enjoy it in the moment, I am so glad they did because it shaped me into a better future clinician. The patience, gentleness, and compassion the WISE therapists displayed towards the children are the things I will remember most. I am humbled I got to be a part of the work you do at WISE.

Camille

Thank you so much for everything you have done for me. I would never have felt confident to do my new job without the experience I gained at WISE. I am forever grateful for getting to learn from you.

Natalie

Working at WISE made me a more creative therapist. The lessons and therapy approach that I have learned at WISE can be used when working in many different clinical settings as it teaches a hands-on approach that includes educating the family to be an important part of their child’s language development. WISE has been a supportive placement as my supervisors truly allowed me to grow as a clinician by allowing me to develop my own lesson plans and implement them. They pushed me out of comfort zone by giving me independence and helped me develop the skills and confidence I needed to grow as a clinician and to be able to implement the skills I have learned in this setting.
